What You Should Do For Your Post Production Services

Ideally, there are three primary stages in film-making each having its own significance. However, post production seems to take the driver’s seat even though it comes last in the list of pre-production, production and post-production stages in filmmaking. This I have learned over the years and therefore, I always rely on the latest news and reviews on Post Production Services by experts for this matter. This stage requires a lot of planning and a lot of things to do which have learned over the years. I am glad to share my views with you in case you too find post production work to be a bit tiring.

An editing format

The first requirement for post-production is an editing format. Ideally, there are two ways to follow in post-production. The first is the old school method of doing it in the film way. You shoot the film and then edit it splicing it on a film editing equipment.

There are some filmmakers who do it this way even today. The other way is more modern where everything is done in a digital way. In this electronic way, you need to digitize all your rushes. However, if it is shot on film it must be scanned into a digital format.  The steps involved in both the ways are pretty similar.

A picture editor

For the pictures, a picture editor is required as well with or without the recommendation of your cinematographer. The editor will create an EDL or Edit Decision List after reading the script and looking at the rushes. From this list, the film is cut according to the opinion of the editor to make the story better.

It involves a lot of creative responsibility and therefore I will suggest it be done well before the film goes into production. A good picture editor will suggest the requirements to make the shot better and also advice on those tricky post-production issues much before the film starts.

The sound editor is required

Without a proper sound, no film will have any meaning. It is like watching a film on mute. Sound not only enables the viewer to listen to what the character has to say but it also enhances the look of the film. The sound editor will cut the dialogue tracks and recreate the sound effects along with preparing the cue sheet for simplifying the Mix.

It will also secure the music with proper re-recording or remixing as and when required. The dialogue, Foley, ADR, and music will be layered on top of each other so that the sound has proper depth.

The final stages

Once the editing, sound, ADR, Foley, and dubbing the dialogue is done, it is the final stage of post-production. It is time to get the titles, with Opening Title Cards and Rear Title Crawl to add to the master track.

Creating a Digital Cinema Package, getting a dialogue script if dubbing is required for foreign territories, getting a campaign image and a trailer will complete the post production services. All these jobs require expertise which is why I rely on professionals to reap the benefits.
